A pair of sectional semifinal baseball games will be played in Washington this evening, with the Galesburg Silver Streaks playing in game number one against the Metamora Redbirds. Galesburg fell to Metamora 3-2 in a meeting earlier this season, but head coach Arnie Gonzalez tells WGIL that he felt they learned a lot from the game.
He added that it's not all up to the coaching staff to know their opponents these days, as the players have more contact with other athletes outside the community.
The winner of the Galesburg-Metamora matchup will play either LaSalle-Peru or Peoria Notre Dame in Saturday's championship at Washington. The winner there advances to Monday's supersectional at Augustana College in Rock Island.
The success of the Silver Streaks high school team may cause the Galesburg American Legion team to be a bit shorthaned to start the summer season. Legion Post 285 Head Coach Steve Cheeseman released the schedule this week, and it shows their first game is this Sunday, June 2nd at home against Geneseo in a doubleheader scheduled for a 2pm start.
