Galesburg baseball players and fans can now turn their attention to the summer American Legion season, after the Silver Streaks bowed out of postseason play Wednesday night. In the sectional semifinal at Washington, the Streaks lost to Metamora 2-1. Carson Cheeseman was the tough-luck losing pitcher, as he allowed just four hits, but did surrender two runs in the first inning that proved to be the difference. The Silver Streaks had seven hits, but missed opportunities to score as they left 10 men on base, including Peyton Issacson, who doubled in the seventh inning but couldn't come around to score. Freshman phenom Jeremy Guerrero got the win for Metamora, as he improved to 9-0 for the season. Galesburg finishes the year at 28-10, while Metamora is 31-5, and moves on to the sectional final Saturday against Peoria Notre Dame.
The Galesburg Legion Post 285 begins play this Sunday afternoon at home against Geneseo with a 2 o'clock doubleheader.
