The Galesburg Silver Streaks still have a shot at the Western Big 6 baseball title, but they would need to sweep this afternoons doubleheader from United Township and then get some help from the Quincy Blue Devils. Galesburg hosts the twinbill with the Panthers, while Quincy is at home to league-leading Alleman. The Streaks trail the Pioneers by one game entering today's action.
In other baseball today, ROWVA hosts Midwest Central and Abingdon plays at Havana.
Also, the Galesburg freshmen are at Bartonville Limestone.
The Galesburg softball team also is playing two games against United Township today, but they are on the road at East Moline. GHS got drilled by Washington yesterday 13-1.
Other area softball games include Abingdon at B-PC/Avon and ROWVA hosting Brimfield/Elmwood.
Knox College will be hiring a new coach to lead the tennis program. Rob Rye, who coached the men's and women's teams this year, has resigned. Rye said he is moving to California to be closer to his family.
The Carl Sandburg Chargers baseball team is in postseason play this afternoon. The Chargers are battling Illinois Valley, as CSC hosts the Region 4 Tournament.
