The Galesburg girls track team qualified for next week's state meet in three events at yesterday's Dunlap Sectional. Delaney Duncan win the 100-meter dash, and was also on the 4-by-400 relay team that took first place. Other team members are Becca Ladner, Kaylyn Boydstun, and Markesha Harden. The girls 4-by-200 relay also qualified for state by finishing in third place.
The small-school baseball and softball seasons are coming to a close, as regionals begin next week in Illinois. In softball today, Abingdon plays at Farmington and Monmouth-Roseville hosts B-PC/Avon. The Galesburg girls still have a week of regular season play left, as they travel to Aledo to play Mercer County today. Tomorrow, they head to Pekin for a doubleheader.
In baseball, the Galesburg Silver Streaks are spending tonight and tomorrow in Metamora, where the Redbird classic tournament is underway. Today's sophomore game at GHS has been cancelled.
Galesburg 3-sport athlete Travon Diggins will be attending Illinois State University. It was announced this morning that Diggins, who excelled at football and basketball for the Silver Streaks, will be signing a letter of intent next Wednesday to run track at ISU. Diggins is the reigning state long-jump champion in class 2A.
The Knox Prairie Fire are in the midst of play at the Midwest Conference Tournament in Wisconsin. The Fire's first game today against St. Norbert got delayed for three hours due to poor conditions. The double-elimination tourney concludes with the championship tomorrow afternoon.
The Carl Sandburg Chargers also play on the road tomorrow at the Region 4 Tournament against Elgin.
