The Galesburg Silver Streaks softball team heads to Morton today in search of back-to-back victories, following yesterday's 12-6 win over Rockridge. Lyric Pendleton had a grand slam for the Streaks, and Liz Terrill went 3-for4 from the plate, as Galesburg picked up their 7th win of the season.

Also on the softball schedule today, Knoxville hosts Abingdon and Galva/Williamsfield travels to Brimfield.

In baseball, the Silver Streaks are scheduled to play at United Township tomorrow, weather permitting. The great weather we are experiencing again today is expected to give way to rain and much cooler temperatures later this week, which could threaten the Streaks Saturday doubleheader at East Moline.

The area hardball schedule for today shows Abingdon playing at Lewistown, while ROWVA hosts Sherrard.

College

The season is over for the Carl Sandburg College softball team. The Chargers were beaten decisively on their home field yesterday by Waubonsie, which swept a pair of games 12-5 and 9-0 in the Region 4 Tournament. Sandburg ended the season with a record of 29-23.

The season continues for the baseball team, which is playing a doubleheader at Kishwaukee today. The Chargers won a pair over Illinois Valley yesterday, 21-9 and 8-7.

The Knox baseball team is scheduled to play again tomorrow, as they travel to Jacksonville for a doubleheader with Illinois College.

Peoria Chiefs

It looks like there will continue to be minor league baseball in Peoria. Last night, the city council approved a 7.35 million dollar financial bailout of the Chiefs. Most of the proposed package was said to be privately funded. The Chiefs are the Class A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
