| Izzo Rejects Offer from Cavs |
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Tom Izzo will continue to have his mail sent to East Lansing, Michigan. Izzo has turned down the Cleveland Cavaliers' lucrative package and will remain head basketball coach at Michigan State, where he says he hopes to end his career. The Cavaliers had offered Izzo a contract reportedly worth $6 million a season, doubling his salary with the Spartans. He called it "an agonizing week as I tried to make a decision about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Izzo has led the Spartans to six Final Fours and won the 2000 NCAA championship in 15 seasons. He's the school's all-time winningest coach at 364-146. The decision would seem to put the Cavs' focus on Byron Scott, although he would also be interested in the Los Angeles Lakers' head coaching job if Phil Jackson retires.
