Goodell Addresses Rookies at NFL Symposium
CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has addressed the league's rookies, talking to them about taking responsibility and honoring the game.

Goodell spent about an hour Sunday evening talking to the rookies, who are at La Costa for the league's annual four-day symposium for players coming into the league.

Goodell told a small group of reporters afterward that he spoke about personal conduct, but that he didn't mention Ben Roethlisberger's case specifically. Goodell suspended the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback for six games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. The penalty resulted from a Georgia college student's allegation that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her in a nightclub.

Goodell says he spoke about "protecting the shield," which are his words for protecting the NFL's integrity.
