Men's Soccer Coach Named at Knox College
POSTED 10:46am 6/30/10 Kevwe Akpore, of Galesburg, Illinois has been selected as Knox College's head men's soccer coach for the upcoming 2010 soccer season. "My core beliefs are that optimism, physical and intellectual hard work foster success," Akpore said. "My aim is to bring these into the program."

Akpore returns to Knox after eight years. He served as the assistant women's soccer coach in 1997, 1998 and 2000 before becoming the head women's coach for the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

"Kevwe's knowledge of soccer and proven leadership abilities make him a good candidate to lead our men's soccer program," said Knox College Athletic Director Chad Eisele. "I feel he will be able to provide the discipline needed for our mens team to advance to the next level." Akpore completed his intercollegiate career at Auchi Polytechnic in Nigeria and has played for multiple years as a midfielder in the F.C. Galesburg soccer club.

Akpore has been involved in soccer in the community since 1988. For the past 20 years he has volunteered for the YMCA and for Galesburg High School. He and his wife, Tracy, have twin daughters Kiara and Sade. Kiara, Sade, and Akpore's nephew Jomo Jr. (known to most as JJ) all played soccer for Galesburg High School and have gone on to play in college. Kiara and Sade are seniors at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville while JJ is a senior at Greenville College where he transferred his sophomore year.

Outside of soccer, Akpore has spent many years working for the United States Defense Department. As part of his multi-faceted job for the United States Defense Department, Akpore serves the Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) as a Transportation Management Coordinator where he was a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom during his last tour of duty. Akpore also serves as a battle focused trainer where he works as a trainer and a leader to provide training for all soldiers through the battalion level. Since his start in 1989 with the United States Defense Department, Akpore has been honored with multiple awards for his exemplary service.

Akpore earned his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts before going on to earn his Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering from Western Illinois University. He is currently working on his second masters degree at Western Illinois University.
