| State Semifinals in Sight for Galesburg High School Baseball Squad |
Galesburg High School's baseball team is focused on making its first trip to state in over two decades. The Silver Streaks (26-13) have that opportunity Monday in the Class 3A Rock Island Supersectional against DeKalb. The Barbs, a member of the Western Sun Conference, enter play with a 25-10 record. Monday's Elite Eight match-up is at 5 p-m at Augustana College. The winner moves on to the state semifinals. Galesburg beat Streator 10-8 over the weekend in the East Peoria Sectional for the program's first sectional title since 1989, which is also the last time a GHS baseball team advanced to state. DeKalb defeated Aurora Marmion Academy 6-5 in the DeKalb Sectional. The winner will play in the state semifinals Friday at Noon at Joliet's Silver Cross Field against the winner of the Naperville Supersectional. That match-up has Woodstock Marian going up against LaGrange Park Nazareth Academy. |
