Cubs' Silva Wins Again; Improves to 8-0
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Carlos Silva extended the best start by a Cubs pitcher in 43 years by allowing one run over seven innings, Ryan Theriot scored four times and Chicago beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-1 on Monday.

Silva gave up four hits, struck out five and walked one in his first start against Pittsburgh since 2003. He became the first Cubs starting pitcher to go 8-0 since left-hander Ken Holtzman was 9-0 in 1967.

The Cubs dropped their first five in PNC Park, but avoided going winless in Pittsburgh during an entire season for the first time since the franchises initially met in 1887, the Pirates' inaugural season.

This is the eighth time in those 124 seasons the Cubs have won only one game in Pittsburgh.
