|Class 3A & 4A Baseball and Softball State Semifinals Set after Tuesday Supersectional Games
|POSTED 4:11 p-m 6/8/10 EastSide Centre in East Peoria and Silver Cross Field in Joliet will be busy places again this weekend as both are the sites of the state softball and baseball semifinals and finals.
The Class 1A and 2A tourneys were played last weekend. The 3A and 4A teams get their turn beginning Friday with the semifinals in both classes.
A Western Big Six team is state-bound after advancing with an Elite Eight victory. Moline defeated Downers Grove South to win the Class 4A Normal Supersectional at ISU.
The game was a slugfest. The teams combined to hit five home runs out of the park - two by the Maroons and three by Downers Grove South. Moline put the game away with six runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Maroons will play the winner of Tuesday afternoon's Orland Park Supersectional between Oak Park River Forest and Orland Park Sandburg. The semifinal game at EastSide Centre is scheduled for Friday night at 7:00. The winner advances to the championship game Saturday, which will follow the third place game at 4:30.
The other semifinal match-up on Friday, which is scheduled at 4:30 p-m, has Palatine Fremd taking on the winner of tonight's Elgin Supersectional between Cary Grove and Elk Grove Village.
Only two of the four Class 3A softball semifinalists are known as well. Breese Mater Dei plays the winner of Tuesday's Elgin Supersectional between River Grove Guerin and River Forest Trinity Friday morning at 9:30 in the first semifinal contest. The second semifinal game that follows at Noon features Antioch and the winner of Tuesday's LaSalle-Peru Supersectional clash between Oak Forest and Metamora. The winners meet in the state championship game on Saturday following the third place game Saturday at 9:30 a-m.
The Class 3A semifinals in Joliet also begin Friday. The first game at Silver Cross Field Friday at 10 a-m has Chatham Glenwood playing the winner of Tuesday's Crestwood Supersectional between Joliet Catholic and Chicago Kenwood. The second state semifinal game Friday at Noon is DeKalb taking on Marian Woodstock. The third place game is Saturday morning at 9:00 followed by the Class 3A championship game.
The Class 4A semifinalists are set. Naperville Central plays Lincolnshire Stevenson Friday at 3:00 in the first semifinal contest followed by the second game at 5 p-m between Chicago St. Rita and Huntley. The winners play for the 4A state title Saturday after the third place game, which starts at 3 p-m.
