Local Sports Round Up 6/1/11
Pairings are set for the Class 3A baseball sectional to be played this week in Galesburg. The first semifinal game this afternoon pits Morton against Peoria Notre Dame at 4:30. That will be followed by the contest between Sterling and Washington. The winners will meet in Saturday's championship scheduled for 11am at Sundburg Field.

The Galesburg Legion Post 285 baseball team will begin their summer schedule tomorrow on the road at East Moline. Steve Cheeseman will again serve as head coach for the team, which posted a record of 30 wins and 6 losses a year ago. The first home game for Post 285 is set for this Sunday, when they host Geneseo in a doubleheader beginning at 2pm.

Galesburg High School's Nikki Peck and Katie Vanoughtegem will continue their swimming careers at Eastern Illinois University. GHS Athletic Director Ralph Henning reports that both athletes were academic all-conference performers for the Silver Streaks, and both will be pursuing degrees in elementary education.
