| Late Goal Gives Canucks Early Series Lead |
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Raffi Torres ended nearly 60 minutes of scoreless hockey with a goal with 18.5 seconds left to give the Vancouver Canucks a 1-0 victory over Boston in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final. It's his third goal of the playoffs.
Roberto Luongo of the Canucks kicked aside 36 shots. Tim Thomas of the Bruins was brilliant as well, making 33 saves until getting beaten by Torres in the final minute.
The Canucks, who've never won the NHL championship, are trying to become Canada's first Stanley Cup winner since Montreal in 1993. Canucks forward Alex Burrows could face discipline from the NHL after he appeared to bite the finger of Boston's Patrice Bergeron during a scrum at the end of the first period.
Game 2 is Saturday night in Vancouver.
