| IL Teen Basketball Player Revived After Collapse |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- A central Illinois teenager is in stable condition after collapsing at a summer basketball league game.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that an off-duty police officer and two nurses resuscitated 17-year-old Devin Sperry of Findlay after he collapsed Monday at the game at a community college in Champaign.
Champaign Police Lt. Jon Swenson says he saw Sperry pass out on the bench after leaving the game. Swenson and nurses Teresa Turner and Betsy Brooks used an automated external defibrillator and CPR to revive Sperry after they discovered the player wasn't breathing.
Sperry's father, Brian Sperry, says his son is at a Peoria hospital awaiting tests to determine what went wrong and whether he'll need surgery.
Findlay is about 50 miles southwest of Champaign. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
