|Local Sports Round Up 6/3/11
|The Galesburg Legion baseball team was rained out from their season opener Thursday at East Moline The Legion's ambitious schedule will now begin with road games at Farmington Friday and Milan Saturday, before coming home Sunday to play Geneseo. Following off days Monday and Tuesday, the team is scheduled to play on 18 consecutive dates, including tournaments in Wheaton and Washington.
In high school state tournament baseball play, Moline fell to Normal West in their 4A Sectional semifinal Thursday 2-0. Friday, the Class 1A and 2A boys finals will begin at O'Brien Field in Peoria.
Also Friday, the United Red Storm softball team plays Toledo Cumberland at noon in the 1A state semifinals in East Peoria.
Former Galesburg Silver Streak basketball player Chad Thompson has changed his mind about which college to attend. After committing to continue his playing career at NAIA school Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, Thompson had a change of heart and decided to attend Carl Sandburg College for the upcoming year. Chargers men's coach Ryan Twaddle said Thursday that Thompson will be a "great addition" to the CSC program. The 6-foot 6 Thompson averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds for Galesburg High School in his senior season.
