Wisconsin Woman Wins Galesburg Half Marathon
FIRST REPORTED 10:30am 6/3/12 A resident of Madison, Wisconsin has won Galesburg's first-ever Half Marathon.

Theresa Brokaw won the first "Run Galesburg Run" Half Marathon, completing the 13.1 mile course through parts of Galesburg and rural Knox County in a time of 1 hour, 26 minutes, 18 seconds. Coming in second was Grant Strom, with a time of 1:26:43. The first Galesburg finisher was Joseph Maslak, with a time of 1:29:03. He was the third male finisher in the field.

Brokaw told WGIL it wasn't the easiest course she's run.

"It got to be pretty warm out there," Brokaw said. "We got into the rolling hills east of Galesburg, but it's nice to cross the finish line."

The first-ever half-marathon was organized by Dave's Auto Body and Go Outside & Play, and Brokaw praised the organizers.

"I was very impressed with how they did it for a first-time race," Brokaw said. "I couldn't have asked for better volunteers at the water stops. Every single mile marker was clear to see. Volunteers out there were cheering us on. We didn't have to worry about not having any [Gatorade or water] to grab there. It was readily available. It was great."

Brokaw said she'd return to participate in next year's race.

A 5K run was also held. Dan Schisler placed first, running the 3.5 miles in 18 minutes, 15 seconds. Courtney Melton was the first female finisher, running in 21:21.

The one mile "Gator Run" was conquered by Tim Haynes, with a time of 7:18.
