CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago White Sox have selected versatile outfielder Courtney Hawkins of Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, with the 13th pick in the draft.
The 18-year-old Hawkins is batting .437 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI this season. He is 5-2 as a pitcher with a .096 ERA. He earlier signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Texas.
Two years ago when the White Sox picked 13th, they took left-handed pitcher Chris Sale and he has become one of the team's top starters.
