Ex-White Sox Scout Sentenced in Kickback Scheme
CHICAGO (AP) -- A federal judge has sentenced a former Chicago White Sox scout to a year and a day in prison for scheming to collect kickbacks from Latin American players the team had signed.

Jorge Oquendo Rivera also was ordered to pay more than $440,000 in restitution during sentencing Friday in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

The 52-year-old Puerto Rico native pleaded guilty in 2011 to mail fraud, and admitted taking kickbacks from 17 players over three years.

Rivera admitted to sending $20,000 to $25,000 of one player's signing bonus to the team's former senior director of player personnel, David Wilder. Wilder was fired in 2008.

Wilder and another scout, Victor Mateo, have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

Judge Charles Norgle ordered Rivera to report to prison on Aug. 30.
