| Rose "Expects" British Golfer to Contend This Week |
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) -- Justin Rose expects a British golfer will contend for the British Open title this weekend at St. Andrews.
Golfers from Britain and Northern Ireland have had a big year already -- they won four of five tournaments at one point, including Graeme McDowell's victory at the U.S. Open -- and Rose said Wednesday they come to St. Andrews possibly the strongest they've ever been.
Rose could be the one in contention. The Englishman was just 17 when he made a splash at Royal Birkdale by tying for fourth. Rose hasn't been able to duplicate that success at the Open, as his best finish since 1998 was a tie for 12th at Carnoustie in 2007. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
