| Ripken Teams Leave Galesburg for Tourney Thursday |
The four Galesburg Cal Ripken League teams that qualified for the regionals will leave for Kentucky Thursday.
Jim Melvin, who coaches the 12-year-old team going to Lexington, KY, says win or lose, this will be a special experience for the kids.
"For most of these teams -- all but one that advances to the World Series -- this will be their World Series, and this will be a really big deal," Melvin said. "They really make it quite a ceremony. We'll have an opening ceremony where the teams come out in uniform, present their state flag. We're very lucky that Rep. Don Moffitt has graciously provided all four teams with a state flag to take to the tournament."
Melvin said some of the teams who win their first few games could be there into early next week. |
