Legion Loses At Day 1 of Tourney
Shaky defense cost the Galesburg Legion in their opening game of the 3rd Division Tournament Wednesday at Moline.

Post 285 had 5 errors, leading to 5 unearned runs, in an 8-4 loss to Eldred.

Earlier in the day, Coach Steve Cheeseman said while he has a good hitting club, he warned that they must play well in the field.

"We do have a good hitting ball club," Cheeseman said. "I'm one of those baseball purists, however, that don't think you can outhit your mistakes all the time. That's something we talked about defensively, shoring things up there. Our guys have done a great job in the last couple weeks of really shoring up some things defensively and mistake-wise. Baseball is the game it is because it's more managing your mistakes than it is being successful. Our guys have done a really good job of raising that part of their game. If we can continue to do that, limit our opponent to just three out and not give them extra outs, I think we have a really good chance."

As they have done on numerous occassions, Galesburg fought back in the late innings after trailing 7-0, and got the tying run to the plate in the 9th inning. But this time the rally fell short, pushing them into the loser's bracket, where they will play Rock Island in an elimination game Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Rock Island lost to Pekin early Wednesday 10-9.
