|Tributes Pour In Following Death of GHS Coach John Chapman
|Mourning continues over the death of Galesburg High School wrestling coach John Chapman over the weekend.
Tributes have poured in over blogs and other sources, paying respects to the 41-year-old former Silver Streak athlete and coach, who suffered an apparent cardiac arrest while running at the Bix 7 race in Davenport Saturday morning. Praise for Chapman's coaching, character, and leadership traits continues to come in from current and former competitors, students, and rival coaches around the area.
Chapman was inducted into the Galesburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006, and is regarded by many as the best wrestler in the school's history. Records show Chapman's death was the third among participants in the history of the Bix race, the last occurring in 1997. He is survived by wife Jody and their two children, Carly Jo and Tyler. Jody Chapman is the girls track and field coach at Galesburg. Both had outstanding college careers at Monmouth College.
