| Flooding Won't Doom Bandits Baseball |
There will be baseball in Davenport Wednesday despite floodwaters in the area of Modern Woodmen Park.
The Quad City River Bandits begin a 3-game series with the Kane County Cougars Wednesday evening, and unlike previous flood years where games were cancelled and the stadium was submerged in water, improvements around the facility will allow the games to be played.
The combination of an earthen blockade and sandbags are allowing a dry walkway into the stadium, formerly known as John O'Donnell, at the base of the Centennial Bridge in Davenport.
After this season, things get even better, as a million-dollar grant from the state of Iowa will allow for construction of brick-clad piers that should permanently secure the site from future rising waters of the Mississippi River. |
