| Illini Say They Have New Chemistry With 6 Freshmen |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP)--After a season of on- and off-court turmoil, Illinois' basketball players say they have a new attitude as they prepare for an August trip to Italy. D.J. Richardson told The (Bloomington) Pantagraph that the chemistry of the team that practiced Tuesday is far better than it was. Richardson says the team has no bad attitudes. Center Meyers Leonard adds that some players had their own agendas that caused problems. He included himself among them. Illinois finished 20-14 and won their NCAA Tournament opener before falling to Kansas. But promising freshman Jereme Richmond was benched over discipline issues before leaving school, and four senior starters are gone. The team this season will include six freshmen and a senior transfer in guard Sam Maniscalco. He moves to Illinois from Bradley.
