| Illini West FB Coach Resigns After 25 Years |
CARTHAGE, Ill. (AP) -- One of Illinois' most successful high school football coaches is calling it quits.
Illini West coach Jim Unruh confirmed Wednesday that he is resigning after 25 years.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that Unruh began coaching at Carthage High School in 1986, leading that team to the first of 25 consecutive winning seasons.
Unruh compiled a 256-45 record with 24 playoff appearances and 10 state championship game appearances. He's a member of the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Under Unruh's leadership, Carthage won state championships in 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2000, while Illini West captured state titles in 2008 and 2010.
He won 40 of the last 41 games he coached. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
