|AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL
After losing at the beginning of the tournament, the Galesburg American Legion Baseball team has made quite the comeback. Post 285 won the District 15 tournament they hosted Friday, by defeating Oneida twice 8-2 and 4-3. Post 285 moves on to the 3rd Division Tournament in Geneseo starting Tuesday, where they take on Jerseyville at noon. It's the second year in a row Post 285 has had to battle back from the losers bracket in order to obtain victory.
CAL RIPKEN STATE TOURNAMENT
Galesburg did not fare well in the 10-year old division of the Cal Ripken State Tournament being hosted in Galesburg. They lost to Homewood 17-11 Friday. Homewood will take on Geneseo Saturday afternoon at Voyles Field at 1pm, while Galesburg will play at 3:15pm versus the loser of the Geneseo-Homewood game.
In the 11-year old division, Galesburg Nationals came from behind to defeat Galesburg American Friday 7-6. This, after the Nationals lost to Mattoon earlier in the day 16-2. Galesburg Nationals will play again at 1:15pm Saturday.
Stefanie Mitchell is the winner of this year's Galesburg Women's All-City Golf Tournament. Mitchell shot even par and a three-day score of 218 in order to secure the victory. It was the former pro's first win in 17 years at the All-City Tournament. Taylor Thompson came in second, and Trisha Blake placed third in the Championship flight. In the First Flight, Marilyn Malley placed first, followed by Natalie Heck and Lorie Larsen. In the Second Flight, it was Diana Kessler, followed by Susie Howard and Deb Galbreath. Third Flight winners were Amanda Aberle, Joyce Armstrong, and Diane Gilman.
The Senior Division championship was taken by Mary Robson, followed by Gail Hannam and Marilyn Malley. Diana Kessler -- who also won the Kathy Dunn Memorial Trophy -- was first in the Senior Division First Flight, followed by Jeanette Stolte and Betty Anderson.
The Men's All-City Golf Tournament resumes Saturday.
