| Illinois Announces Parham Hired as Assistant |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The University of Illinois confirms it has hired Chicago native and former Illinois State assistant basketball coach Paris Parham as an assistant on head coach John Groce's staff.
A university source said last week Parham had been hired, but spoke on condition of anonymity because the move hadn't yet been announced.
Groce said Thursday that Parham is a strong recruiter in Chicago and around the state. Parham also has coached in the Chicago Public League. Parham will take the spot vacated by Isaac Chew, who left for Marquette. Most recently Parham was an assistant under Tim Jankovich at Illinois State. Jankovich left this spring to join the SMU staff. Parham has been an assistant at Maryland-Eastern Shore and Minnesota State. |
