The start of the John Deere Classic golf tournament is just over a week away in the Quad Cities. Tournament Director Claire Peterson told us recently on the WGIL Morning News that the prevailing cool and moist weather in the early summer has the course in terrific shape.
The tournament will be held next Thursday through Sunday, July 11-14 at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis. Iowa native Zach Johnson is the defending champion.
The Galesburg American Legion baseball team won a pair of games without ever taking the field last night. The team saw it's record improve to 26-7 when Canton apparently could not field a team, and was forced to call in a forfeit. Galesburg will play tonight, as the team travels to Moline for a single 9-inning game (that is scheduled for a 5:30 start). The schedule shows tomorrow as a day off for the holiday, but they'll be back at it with a pair of games of Friday as the weekend-long Moline tournament begins. First up for Galesburg is a 10am game Friday with Rock Island---a team that has handed Galesburg three of it's seven losses. The game will be played on the home field for the Quad City River Bandits---Modern Woodman Park in Davenport.
Other Legion baseball games around the area tonight include:
Milan at MONMOUTH
Elmwood/Brimfield at ONEIDA
