Another hot July afternoon of baseball finds Galesburg and Oneida trying to play their way through the District 15 Tournament in Farmington. Galesburg is hoping for a berth in Friday's championship, as Post 285 plays Quincy.

Meanwhile, Oneida is up against the host Farmington in an elimination game. Post 727 stayed alive yesterday with a 9-2 rout of Canton.

The Cal Ripken 10 year old state baseball tournament begins tomorrow evening in Galesburg, as the host team plays Evergreen Park at 5:30, followed by Geneseo against Homestead at 7:30. Tournament organizer Jim Melvin of Galesburg Youth Baseball League says there's not much time to spare as they host several events in the next few weeks.

The two diamonds at Voyles Fields will be used for all of this weekend's action, which includes the 9 and 11-year old state tournaments as well. The number of teams is down from recent years, and Jim explains why.

A home run hitting contest is scheduled for Friday night, when all of the teams will be in town and have a chance to participate.
