Galesburg boxer George Carter, Jr. will go after his 10th professional victory later this month in Davenport. Carter's manager Carlos Duncan reports that Carter will fight Jaime Castellano of Lansing, Michigan at the Danceland Ballroom on Saturday, July 13th. Duncan says that Castellano is a veteran of 32 fights, and calls him a durable opponent that should present a challenge for Carter in the scheduled six-round bout. Carter has won all nine of his pro fights so far, with five coming by knockout.
The lights will be on tonight at Sundberg Field in Galesburg, as the Legion Post 285 baseball team hosts Canton in a doubleheader. Galesburg won a matchup of the two teams last Friday in Canton, and hopes to run its' record to 26-7 with a sweep this evening. Coach Steve Cheeseman's team will then spend the rest of the week in the Quad Cities, as they will play at Moline tomorrow, and then go back north on Friday to begin a weekend tournament at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport.
In other American Legion action tonight: Oneida hosts Chillicothe and Monmouth travels to Farmington.
