| Pinella Returns to Cubs |
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella is back with the team after missing four games tending to his ailing mother in Tampa, Fla.
First baseman Derrek Lee also rejoined the team Friday after being activated from the bereavement list. Lee was in the lineup for the opener of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Piniella, who is retiring after the season, said he never considered skipping the rest of the season. He said he's never been a quitter in his life and was looking forward to watching a handful of new players who arrived while he was gone.
The Cubs had lost 13 of 15 and were 48-67 entering the night, 17 games behind NL Central-leading St. Louis. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
