Thome Has Been Productive, Powerful for Twins
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Jim Thome is giving the Minnesota Twins just about all they could have hoped for when they signed the veteran slugger to a one-year, $1.5 million contract this season.

In a mere 204 at-bats, Thome has 16 home runs and 41 RBIs. He went deep Sunday for the 580th time in his career.

The Twins have built a three-game lead in the AL Central over the Chicago White Sox, who visit Target Field on Tuesday to start a critical three-game series. The White Sox decided not to bring Thome back this season, and the Twins have benefited.

Thome says facing his old team this year has been fun.

Thome will turn 40 later this month. He's limited to part-time designated hitter duty and pinch hitting.
