Olson Speaks First at WB6 Football Coaches Banquet
Galesburg Silver Streaks head football coach Wes Olson was the first to speak at Wednesday night's annual banquet to kickoff the Western Big 6 football season.

Olson -- in his final year at the helm in Galesburg -- said the Streaks return 7 offensive and 8 defensive starters from last year's squad that finished with a 4 and 5 record. Olson told the crowd that he feels there are three keys to success for the team this season, those being ball security, line play, and solid tackling.

Galesburg opens it's schedule at home next Friday night against Chicago Academy High School. Athletic Director Ralph Henning announced Wednesday that there will be no Sophomore game that night, as the Chicago school would not have the team ready to play by that time.

Back to the banquet, Rock Island was established as the clear-cut favorite to win the league this year, and a pair of new head coaches were introduced. Crick Santamour will take over at Moline, replacing the departed Joel Ryser. And Ron Litchfield is the new head coach at United Township. Litchfield has previously coached in the Kansas City area, before relocating to the Quad Cities.
