The Galesburg Silver Streaks were expected to rout the first team they play this year, and they did. The Streaks took care of Chicago Academy Friday night 57-0 in the season and home openers. The Streaks led 44-0 after the first half and used all their players en route to their first victory of the season. Among the numerous scores, sophomore back Travon Diggins had a 20-yard touchdown run in the first half, and opened the second with a 89-yard kickoff reception for a TD. The Streaks now look ahead to play at Morton next Friday night. You can hear the game on AM 1400 WGIL beginning at 7:06. The sophomores did not play last night, because Chicago Academy did not have a sophomore team.
Elsewhere, the Knoxville Blue Bullets opened the season with a close loss to Bushnell-Prairie City Avon 22-21. The Spartans scored all their points in the second half, while the Blue Bullets couldn't score in the 4th Quarter.
Mid-County opened its first season as a newly combined football team with a win, defeating Princeville 26-12. The ROWVA-Williamsfield-Galva Coop did all their scoring in the first half en route to the victory.
