| Illini Look to Rebound With New QB, Coaches |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Juice Williams isn't at the University of Illinois any more, and the guy who will replace him was barely a blip on the Illini roster a year ago.
Redshirt freshman Nathan Scheelhaase is being asked by new offensive coordinator Paul Petrino to do more than just manage the game. Petrino wants his young quarterback to win games for the Illini.
And it may be important that he does.
Petrino and new defensive coordinator Vic Koenning have their jobs because Illinois fired most of head coach Ron Zook's staff after last year's 3-9 disaster.
Scheelhaase says the new coaches have created a whole new, intense atmosphere.
Koenning also could use a big year from linebacker Martez Wilson. Wilson missed last season with a neck injury. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
