| Cards Call Up Catcher, Expect Discipline |
CINCINNATI (AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals have called up a catcher because they're not sure how long Jason LaRue will be sidelined by injuries sustained in a brawl with the Cincinnati Reds.
The Cardinals called up Steven Hill from Double-A Springfield. The 25-year-old catcher will be making his major league debut.
St. Louis also put right-hander Jeff Suppan on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin.
The Cardinals say LaRue got kicked in the head by Reds starter Johnny Cueto during a first-inning brawl Tuesday night. Manager Tony La Russa says the reserve catcher also might have broken ribs.
La Russa expects disciplinary action against the Reds. Cincinnati manager Dusty Baker says it's too soon to speculate about might happen. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
