| Illinois Linebacker Facing DUI Charges |
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- A University of Illinois football player is due in court in early September after he was charged with drunk driving. A Champaign County court official said Monday that junior linebacker Ashante Williams will make his initial appearance Sept. 8. Williams faces two counts of driving under the influence following his arrest Saturday in Urbana. He has not entered a plea and did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment. Court officials did not know if he has an attorney. The university said Williams has been suspended from the team. The Mayfield, Ohio, native played in all 13 games last fall and was expected to see heavy playing time this season. Williams' arrest follows the arrest earlier in July of lineman Chris Jones on aggravated battery charges. He pleaded not guilty. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
