|Notre Dame Starts Aerial Lift Safety Program
|SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- The University of Notre Dame has started a campaign publicizing the hazards of aerial lifts as part of its settlement with the state of Indiana over safety violations in the death of a student videographer at football practice last year.
The school launched LiftUpRight.org, a website aimed at promoting aerial lift safety for universities and high schools. The university agreed in June to pay a $42,000 fine for safety violations and to start the awareness campaign following the death of 20-year-old Declan Sullivan of Long Grove, Ill., on a hydraulic scissor lift toppled in high winds.
A video on the website includes a statement by Sullivan's father, Barry, urging people who work at schools that use aerial lifts to watch the safety video.
