Iconic Masters Jacket Sells for $310,700
AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- A green jacket that dates to the 1930s and belonged to Masters Tournament co-founder Bobby Jones has been auctioned for $310,700.

The jacket was put up for bid in conjunction with the Chicago National Sports Show in Rosemont, Ill.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that the winning bid was placed by an overseas buyer who chose to remain anonymous.

Officials with Heritage Auctions say the jacket dates to 1937, when Augusta National members began wearing them so they could be easily identifiable to patrons who had questions.

Authorities say the iconic green jackets rarely come up for sale because Augusta National restricts them from being taken off club grounds. The only exception: Winners of the Masters, who get to keep it for a year.
