Former Champion Micheel Back in PGA Contention
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. (AP) -- Former PGA winner Shaun Micheel is back in contention for a second Wanamaker Trophy after shooting a 4-under 66 in Thursday's opening round.

Micheel is three shots behind leader Steve Stricker and one behind Jerry Kelly at Atlanta Athletic Club.

Micheel won his only PGA Tour event when he captured this title in 2003 with a remarkable 7 iron approach on the 72nd hole at Oak Hill Country Club in 2003. He finished second at this event three years later, runner-up by five shots to Tiger Woods at Medinah Country Club.

Micheel started quickly with birdies on four of his first six holes. He added one more birdie to post the lowest score of the afternoon starters and the lowest his 25 career rounds at the year's final major.
