The high school football season kicks off Friday night and the schedule shows the Galesburg Silver Streaks will make their longest road trip of the year as they travel to DeKalb. Galesburg head coach Tim Dougherty says as he embarks on his second season with the team, his familiarity with the players has led to improvments, especially with improved strength training.
Dougherty adds that one of the best offseason activities was attending a week-long camp at Illlinois Wesleyan, where his team practiced with seven schools from the Chicago area.
You can hear more from coach Dougherty, as well as comments from DeKalb coach Todd Halleron, on the Silver Streaks pregame show at about 7:05 Friday evening with Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee on WGIL.
