Golf courses in the Galesburg area will be busy this afternoon as high school teams will be competing in the late summer heat. The GHS girls host Rock Island at Lake Bracken; the Streak's boys play Alleman at Bunker Links; the Knoxville boys are at home at Laurel Greens to Mid County; and the Mid-County girls travel to Aledo's Hawthorne Ridge to play Mercer County.

The volleyball season gets underway for the Monmouth-Roseville Titans tonight, as they play host to West Hancock. The Galesburg Silver Streaks will have their "Meet the Streaks" night, beginning at 5 at John Thiel Gym. The Streak's first competition doesn't begin until next week, when they play Quincy.

Knox College has increased its' commitment to sports, by hiring full-time coaches to replace
the part-time commitments that had been made in the past. Knox President Dr. Teresa Amott said that recruiting opportunities should be greatly enhanced by the move. Amott said the football team is fired up by the arrival of new head coach Damon Tomeo.

The hiring of Coach Tomeo to lead the football team has allowed former head coach Chad Eisele to concentrate on his duties as athletic director. The football opener for Knox will be September 7th against Eureka.
