The new school year will begin in a few weeks, and with it comes the start of the fall sports season. It will be a year of transition at Galesburg High School, as work will continue on the new athletic facilities, in preparation for the new football field to be completed for the 2014 season. This year's football schedule will begin with a home game against Moline on August 30th. The 9-game schedule shows five games on the road and four at home for the Silver Streaks, who are looking for a second straight playoff appearance. This will be the final year of the Western Big-6 Conference in football, as the league was extended an extra season due to a scheduling conflict that prevented the merger of the Big 6 and Peoria's Mid-State Conference this season. However, all non-conference games will be played against Peoria schools in preparation for the cross-over next season.
Other season openers for Silver Streak's varsity fall sports teams include the boys soccer team playing Geneseo on the 27th of this month. Then the girls swim team opens against Dunlap on September 3rd, and the volleyball squad also begins that night by hosting Quincy.
