|Peoria's Indoor Football Team Folds
|PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- The Peoria Pirates indoor football club is no more.
Minority owner Jim Foster told the Peoria Journal Star late Sunday that the af2 team has ceased operations after several investors recently backed out.
Foster says the Pirates ran out of time and money. No investors were willing to post $100,000 letters of credit by an approaching league deadline.
The Pirates didn't play in 2007 but went 4-12 in 2008 and 5-11 this year. The team missed the playoffs both years.
Attendance had been steadily increasing, and projections had predicted the team would be close to breaking even for 2010.
The af2 is an offshoot of the now-defunct Arena Football League. The af2 has 25 teams across the country.
