United Football Team State Ranked in Class 1-A
FIRST AIRED AT 11:52 a-m 9/9/09 Several high school football teams from the area are represented in the latest Associated Press Top 10 poll.

United is ranked #9 in Class 1-A after wins over West Central and Cambridge the first two weeks of the season. The Red Storm was unranked in the previous poll. Dakota (2-0) is the top-ranked team in Class 1-A. Princeville (2-0) and Bushnell-Prairie City-Avon (1-1) received consideration, but not enough to climb into this week's top 10.

Mercer County (2-0) is ranked #3 in Class 2-A, the same spot as a week ago. The Golden Warriors received one first place vote. Stark County remains at #7 after a 2-0 start. Orion (2-0) is #8, up from #9 last week. Annawan-Wethersfield (1-1) moved up to 10th after being unranked. Bureau Valley (2-0) holds down the #1 ranking, leapfrogging #2 Maroa-Forsythe (2-0).

Defending Class 3-A champion Illini West (2-0) stays at #1. Tumbling in the poll was DuQuoin (1-1). The Indians dropped from #4 last week to #10 this week. Pittsfield-Griggsville-Perry (2-0) of the West Prairie Trail Conference moved up one spot to #7. The Saukees received one vote for the top spot.

Rock Island Alleman (1-1) received consideration but did not break into the Class 4-A top ten. The Pioneers lost to LaSalle-Peru in overtime in their season opener and won at Byron last week. Bloomington Central Catholic (2-0) and Rochester (2-0) are tied at #1. Quincy Notre Dame (2-0) remains at #3 and Geneseo (2-0) stays put at #4 after beating Moline last week.

Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin (2-0) is ranked #1 in Class 5-A, replacing Joliet Catholic (1-1). The Hilltoppers fell to #3. Washington (2-0), unranked a week ago, debuts this week at #6 after defeating Metamora (1-1) last week. Metamora falls from #3 to #10 after the loss to the Panthers.

Rock Island (1-1) is ranked #8 in Class 6-A after the Rocks shut out previously state-ranked Crete-Monee last week. Crete-Monee fell out of the top 10. East St. Louis (2-0) is the #1 team in 6-A. Peoria Richwoods (2-0) received consideration but did not break into the top 10.

The new #1 in Class 7-A is Chicago St. Rita (2-0), which replaces Wheaton Warrenville South (1-1). Glenbard West moves up from #3 to #2.

Maine South (2-0) is the top ranked school in Class 8-A, switching spots with Chicago Mount Carmel (2-0). The #3 through #7 ranked teams are unchanged in this week's poll.
