| North Chicago Football Team Penalized for Brawl |
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois High School Association has suspended the North Chicago football program for a brawl last week during a game against Chicago's Simeon High School. IHSA executive director Marty Hickman said Thursday that North Chicago will remain suspended indefinitely and will forfeit its game against Vernon Hills scheduled for this weekend. The team is allowed to practice. Simeon was ahead 21-0 with about five minutes remaining in the first quarter when the game, played Friday at North Chicago, was called off and Simeon declared the winner. While Simeon wasn't held blameless, Hickman said film of the game shows North Chicago players were "way out of line in this case." Hickman said Simeon players have been identified for their roles in the brawl and will be disciplined. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
