| San Diego Beats Marquis, Rockies |
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Tony Gwynn drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in a three-run sixth inning, lifting the San Diego Padres to a 7-3 win over Jason Marquis and the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Marquis (15-11) carried a 3-2 lead into the sixth when San Diego rallied to hand the NL wild card leaders a loss with 18 games to play. Marquis walked four batters in the inning, including one with the bases loaded. In three consecutive series, San Diego has taken two of three games from each of the NL West playoff contenders, the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco and Colorado. The Rockies lead in the wild-card race fell to 4 1/2 games after the Giants beat the Dodgers. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
