Churchill 7th Grade Football Team Streaks Past Moline Wilson
Chris Anderson had a monster opening game for the Churchill Junior High School 7th grade football team, which scored in bunches and beat Moline Wilson Junior High School.

The Blue Streaks' offense was in high gear, and Anderson couldn't be stopped in a 44-28 victory Tuesday night at Lombard Field.

Anderson led Churchill with five touchdowns: a 20-yard run in the first quarter, a 96-yard run and a 10-yard reception from quarterback Peyton Isaacson in the second quarter, a 70-yard kickoff return in the third quarter and an 86-yard fumble recovery return in the fourth quarter.

Ben Holloway got loose for an 11-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and added two different 2-point conversion runs for Churchill. Joe Williams also had a 2-point conversion run in the third quarter.

Coach Scott Rasso says the players have been working hard for nearly a month getting ready for the game. "I think they just got kind of sick of always hitting each other in practice and finally were able to take out some aggression on Wilson (tonight"."

Rasso says winning the first game of the season is nice, but the players have to keep getting better. "The coaching staff and I have very, very high expectations for this particular group of players, so we still have a lot of work to do to sharpen up our blocking and lowering the pad level on the O-line, improving our tackling on defense in terms of getting better pursuit angles, hitting low, wrapping up and driving our legs to the whistle."

Rasso says the offseason regimen appears to have paid dividends. "We seemed very tough and very well conditioned (tonight) and that's something the players and their parents should be very proud of, but it's also something we need to build on because our schedule does not get any easier from here on out."

Churchill plays at Macomb Junior High next Tuesday at 5:00 p-m.
