High School Girls Golf
Galesburg High School bounced back from a pair of losses on Tuesday by defeating Washington in a non-conference dual meet Wednesday afternoon at Lake Bracken. GHS outshot the Panthers 167-227. Jessica Lieber fired a 39 for the Streaks to earn medalist honors. Teammate Marissa Vinson was next with a 42. Lily Anderson led the Galesburg junior varsity team with a 58.

Knoxville suffered its first loss of the season against Rock Island Alleman in the Quad Cities. The Pioneers won by 13 shots (181-194). The Blue Bullets' Abby Ball carded a 40 to finish as the medalist. Teammate Taylor Thompson was next with a 43. Knoxville's record is now 4-1.
High School Boys Golf
Ridgewood edged Stark County by four strokes (183-187) at Lake Calhoun
Aledo downed Farmington by five strokes (182-187) at Canton Country Club
Kewanee (165) won a three-team meet against Canton (171) and Princeville (209) at Baker Park
High School Volleyball
Quincy spoiled Galesburg's Western Big Six opener. The Blue Devils (12-1, 2-0) beat the Silver Streaks (2-6, 0-1) in two games: 25-10, 25-11. Jorden Thomas led Galesburg with 4 kills. Amy Blucker added 3 blocks, Sara Baker had 3 digs and 8 assists and Sydney Edwards had 3 digs. Galesburg plays next in Saturday's Western Big Six Quad. Quincy also won the sophomore and freshman matches in two games.

Wethersfield defeated Williamsfield in two games (25-14, 25-12). Tessa Swedmen led the Flying Geese (5-6) with 12 kills and 6 digs. Shelby Steger contributed 10 assists, 4 kills and 5 digs. Billtown (3-7) was led by Emily Newell's 4 kills and 4 assists. She also had a service ace. Wethersfield won the freshman/sophomore match in three games.
High School Football
Galesburg High School's freshman team lost to Rock Island Alleman 30-6. The Pioneers jumped out to a 16-0 first quarter lead and scored the rest of their points in the second quarter. The Streaks (1-2) scored in the fourth quarter on a Brandon Cervantez 14-yard touchdown run.
Galesburg plays Rock Island on September 26th.
Local College Sports

Carl Sandburg College lost in three straight sets to Kishwaukee College, the fourth ranked team in the nation. The Kougars won with scores of 25-13, 25-8 and 25-13. The Chargers were led by Malinda Anderson and Brooke Thompson with 3 kills apiece. Trisha Beswick added 7 assists. The Chargers play again Saturday in the Augustana Viking Invitational Tournament. -Women's Soccer-
Iowa Wesleyan defeated Knox College 3-2 in overtime to put a damper on the Prairie Fire's home opener. Knox got goals from Danielle Roeder and Emma Swanson. Goalie Alex Rauland had 21 saves for Knox. |
