| White Sox Offense Quiet in Loss to Seattle |
SEATTLE (AP) -- Ryan Rowland-Smith pitched eight innings to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night. The Australian left hander allowed nine hits and struck out two, punctuating his outing with an escape of a seventh-inning jam. The White Sox had runners on first and third with one out, but the bottom of the order failed to deliver as Rowland-Smith (4-3) retired consecutive hitters. Closer David Aardsma, who last pitched on September 2nd, worked the ninth for his 35th save. The White Sox have little margin for error in the AL Central with 16 games to play, falling 6 1/2 games behind first-place Detroit. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
